Original sequential art pages on a black felt viewing table

Boards, splashes, process

Original art, seen as work.

A finished board is not a poster. It carries white-out, margin notes, and the pressure of a deadline. We sell sequential art as studio objects: measured, photographed in raking light, and given a written history from the table they left.

What we take in

Complete pages, splash boards, cover paintings, and the working drawings that explain them. We prefer pieces with a paper trail: a studio stamp, a printer’s note, a letter from the artist, or an estate inventory. Unsigned work is sold as attributed, never as signed.

We do not handle production cels we cannot document, print reproductions sold as unique, or pages cut from published books. If a board has been trimmed, bleached, or re-inked after publication, that is the first line of the condition report.

Inked splash page of a masked figure leaping across rooftops

On the table this month

A rooftop splash in ink and wash, 380 × 560 mm illustration board, with the artist’s ruling-pen notes in the right margin. Viewing by appointment.

Measured, not guessed

Every board is measured, the medium named, and the verso described. We note tape, glue, and later additions so a conservator is not surprised later.

Artists we know

Where we represent living illustrators, terms are written. Studio prices are the studio’s; we do not undercut a living artist to move a board.

Seen under a lamp

Original art is not posted unannounced. First viewing is in East Layton or by a set of raking-light photographs. Framing is arranged with a York workshop if you want it hung, not stored.

Hanging and keeping

Boards live best in the dark, in archival sleeves, in a room that does not swing from fire to frost. If you want a piece on the wall, we specify UV glazing, a spacer so the art does not touch the glass, and a backing that can be reversed.

Insurance valuations are written on request for pieces we have sold, based on the invoice and comparable studio sales, not on hope.

The art inventory is a separate PDF from the pamphlet catalogue. It names the artist, the story, the medium, and the price.
