Terms and conditions

These terms govern sales, viewings, grading submissions, and conservation work with demeritvivo. They are written under the law of England and Wales.

Who you are dealing with

demeritvivo trades from East Layton, Richmond DL11 7PW, UK. Enquiries go to [email protected]. Viewings are by appointment at that address.

By placing an order, booking a viewing, or posting a book for grading, you agree to these terms.

1. Catalogue descriptions

Grades are opinions based on inspection in East Layton. Photographs form part of the description. A third-party label grade, where present, is the opinion of that service, not a guarantee from us. Colour on a screen will differ from north light.

2. Offers and payment

Lots are offered subject to remaining unsold. A written acceptance of your offer forms the contract. We take bank transfer in pounds sterling. Title passes when funds clear and the lot has left our premises or been collected.

3. Distance sales

If you buy at a distance as a consumer, the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 give you 14 days to cancel after the lot arrives, unless you have unsealed a sealed collectible or asked us to begin conservation work. Original art made to a brief you supplied is excluded. Return postage of cancelled lots is yours unless the lot was misdescribed.

4. Misdescription

If a lot is materially not as described — restoration omitted, a missing page, a cracked slab we failed to note — we refund the price and our postage. Wear disclosed in the sentence grade is not a misdescription. Please write within 14 days of delivery and keep the packing until we have replied.

5. Grading and conservation

A written grade is an opinion, not a third-party certification. Encapsulation is sent to an independent service; their turnaround and rules apply. Conservation is quoted after inspection and is reversible where the materials allow. We are not liable for a later grader disagreeing with our sentence.

6. Risk and postage

Risk passes on collection, or when a courier collects from East Layton. We pack to our standard. Declared-value shipping is used above a threshold we will name on the invoice. Export is the buyer’s responsibility, including duties and any restriction on cultural goods.

7. Viewings

Appointments may be moved if a lot sells or if weather closes the A66. You handle stock at the table under our supervision. We may refuse a viewing if we cannot staff the room safely.

8. Law

English law applies. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer.

Questions about a specific lot belong on an invoice, not in a general clause. Write and we will answer in English.
